Jerry West
Jerry Alan West was born on May 28th 1938. He is a very important person, because he was born and raised in West Virginia. He is the logo for the NBA. Jerry's nickname is Mr. Clutch, because he could always make the important play. West played for WVU in college. He is the best to ever play for West Virginia. After his college career at West Virginia University, he was drafted to the Minneapolis Lakers in 1960.The Minneapolis Lakers chose West with the second overall pick after Robertson in the 1960 NBA draft. When the chips were down, West, with his lightning quick release, was the guy the Lakers turnedto for the big basket. Many players were tagged with the nickname 'Mr. Clutch,' but none of them live up to it as Jerry West did. Jerry West had an amazing NBA career.He was the third player in league history to reach 25,000 points after Wilt Chamberlin and Oscar Robertson. He had the most famous buzzer-beater of all time with a 60 ft. swish in 1970 NBA finals against the New York Knicks. Jerry had a high tolerance for pain, he broke his nose atleast 9 times. West lead the way when he won the state title in high school in 1956.At the 1969 NBA finals against Boston, West became the only member of a losing team in the NBA to win the finals MVP award.
