World War II
West Virginia was involved in WWII. We were involed because the Japenese bombed Pearl Harbor. That effected West Virginia and the rest of the U.S.. Eight battleships and three destroyers were sunk. One of those battleships was the U.S.S. West Virginia. Six months later the battleship was raised, and the next year was spent rebuilding it. In 1944, the West Virginia returned to battle duty in the Philippines. When Japanese surrendered in 1945, West Virginia was only a few miles away, anchored in Tokyo Bay. The ship carried veterans home after the war. The U.S.S. West Virginia was decomissioned on January 1, 1946.The ship remained on reserve status until March 1, 1959, when it was removed from the Navy's list of vessels. The U.S.S.
